Remember Boadicea? A fearsome warrior from ages past, who gave her all for England; a woman with a vision, a mission and heaps of get up and go? She moved on as all good women do but her spirit is alive and kicking today. Could it be that Boadicea has reinvented herself as 21st century career woman? Surely the requirements are much the same.

Take a look at business, politics, the arts and there she is, perched at the pinnacle of success, propelled there by her vision, her mission and heaps of get up and go! Do any of her characteristics resonate with you? Have you felt the urge to start a business, get into government or do something innovative that could make a difference? Then what’s stopping you? Maybe all you need is the realisation that you have what it takes and, like Boadicea, be prepared to seize the opportunity and run with it.

So what exactly does it take to be a success in the big city? Let’s assume your dream is to start a business. You’ve done the research, know the market and have the means to get started. Can you see yourself building this business brick by brick, doing the hack work, networking, marketing and producing your product?

Have you considered if you have the temperament? Do you have the energy, tenacity and persistence of the long distance runner or are you more of a sprinter where the short burst is your strength? Many a good idea has flagged when the energy dissipates and enthusiasm departs.

So give it some thought; maybe the warrior dream is not for you. But to make certain, next time you gaze into the mirror double check to see who is staring back. If it’s Boadicea then go for it!
