The phrase midlife woman can strike fear and denial into anyone moving into their mid to late 30's. In fact, many of us deny the actual age midlife starts and doubt we could possibly be even close to it.
Midlife is a time of great change. Many women feel as if they are sitting atop a simmering volcano. Dr Christiane Northrup, in her book The Wisdom of Menopause, describes women's brains as "catching fire" in the midlife years, stoked by hormonal surges as strong and disorienting as puberty. Physical changes occur at a cellular level and the brain rewires itself to the extent that the world begins to look and feel different.
