The latest research crashing down with an unwelcome thud is that men are happier than women by the time they hit midlife. Why is this so?
According to an article in the LA Times, men are happier because they are financially better off and have reached a number of aspirations by midlife whilst women who may have struggled through divorce, raised children or worked to make ends meet have had to curtail their early aspirations along the way.
Researchers analyzed national data taken over decades of 47,000 men and women that shows statistically women's happiness decreases as men's increases by the average age of 48. However, they found that women were generally happier when they were young compared to men. The research, published in the Journal of Happiness Studies, concludes that marraige and religion are two of the biggest factors in life satisfaction.
