By now we have all heard about Susan Boyle, the singing sensation who has taken a U.K talent show, not to mention the world, by storm.
This frumpy, middle aged woman from Scotland has the voice of a professional singer and wants to follow her dream of being on the stage. Countless articles and talk shows are proposing that her success is due more to her virginal status, unassuming nature and our society's perception of beauty, than her actual voice.
But isn't there more to this woman than a fascination with the ordinary becoming extraordinary? We delight in the fact the audience and judges of a the U.K talent show were about to make a mockery of her singing attempts when she waltzed onto the stage. Instead they were transformed by her magic. No longer able to dismiss her as a freak and leave her to the mercy of acid tongue Simon Cowell, they discovered something else, a woman with a beautiful voice.
Susan is typical of the Midlifexpress woman, in her 40's, with a fire in her belly and looking for the opportunity to follow her dream. We salute you Susan Boyle, you are an inspiration to all other midlife women and we wish you all the success in the world.
