shamanThe Magician and Sage archetypes are those most likely to be drawn to the esoteric study of Shamanism.  Shamanism is an ancient healing practice common to all cultures throughout history. Traditionally, shamans were chosen by their tribe if they showed an unusual sensitivity to the natural world, a deep intuition and an ability to heal the sick. A shaman acts as a mediator between other realities and our own world.   They seek to acquire knowledge and insight by accessing different states of consciousness and then to apply this knowledge to heal the sick and solve various problems the tribe might be having. Shamans are intensely practical people.  Some shamans use medicinal herbs such as iboga in Africa and Ayahuasca in South America to induce altered states of being. However, most shamans use rhythmic drumming to induce a trance that effectively overrides ordinary waking consciousness and allows them to bring forth hitherto buried insights and wisdom

Shamanism is a sacred and deeply spiritual practise.  However, you don't have to want to be a shaman to enter into trance like states as they do. We in the west can use the techniques to enter altered states to have problems solved for ourselves and others that we have been unable to deal with consciously.

Clare Roberts runs the Caerleon centre in Belgrave Heights where she runs beginners and advanced shamanic practise weekend workshops.  These weekends are a wonderful and completey non threatening way to be introduced to the profound practice of shamanism and its practical application to everyday life.

Clare has travelled to Peru and studied shamanism with Michael Harner, a shaman himself who has spent decades with traditional shamans learnng their craft and bringing it to the west.  According to Clare, there has been significant interest in her courses over the past few years which is, she says, because the time has come for shamanism to be brought to our culture to heal the planet of our hitherto destructive behaviour.

According to Clare, the time has come for the introduction of shamanism to the west at a time when the earth needs to be healed.  Shamanism is a practise that emphasises our connection to the earth and deeply respects what it can teach us.  It needs to be intergrated into our culture to enable a balance to evolve.  Intuition and logic a synthesis.

Start with the beginners guide to shamanism and progress to advanced shamanic practise. Progress if you wish to soul retrieval.
