Autumn mulching

Reading Time: < 1 minute
A thick layer of leaves

Autumn is a great time to rake up all the leaves scattered around the garden to use as mulch.

A thick layer of leaves will decompose over the winter months and help prepare the soil for spring and summer planting

I spread enough leaves to create a thick covering before applying another layer of pine mulch. The pine mulch prevents the leaves from blowing away and adds more depth.

Pine bark has a lovely pungent smell and use it generously to spread across the leaves.

Together the leaves and pine are a cost effective way to suppress weeds and keep the garden tidy.
