Why doctors must be free to innovate in cancer treatment

Lord Saatchi

The image above contains a link to a recent BBC interview with Lord Maurice Saatchi (the founder of advertising firm Saatchi and Saatchi) whose wife died a harrowing death from peritoneal cancer in 2011.

Lord Saatchi is campaigning to have the law changed (at least in Britain) so that doctors will have the freedom to innovate responsibly in cancer treatment without fear of losing their jobs or their reputation. At present, if a doctor deviates from the standard cancer treatment protocol they risk ostracism and ruin.

My thanks to Ian Gawler’s excellent blog Out on a Limb for alerting me to the interview.
