I Vow Not to Blubber

Trying to stop myself from sobbing on board a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore wasn’t easy. As I gulped for air and rubbed away the moist drops threatening to stream down my face, I managed to gain composure. The reason for my distress was The Vow starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum.

Normally I don’t watch romance movies.  However, I was limited for choice on the flight. Within minutes I was engrossed in this tragic love story whilst hoping my flight wouldn’t land before it finished.

The story, based on fact, is about a newly married couple (Paige and Leo) blissfully in love. One night they are involved in a car accident and Paige receives a head wound. When she wakes from her coma she no longer remembers Leo or anything about their time together. He desperately tries to help Paige regain her memory but her family intervene to separate them. Leo aims to make her fall back in love with him or lose her forever.

This beautifully acted film avoided cliches and somehow managed to be romantic and tragic without overdoing either.

I recommend this film to all midlife women wanting the perfect romantic chick flick movie particularly on board an aircraft.
