Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, is a phenomenally popular celebrity.
He is legendary for his strong work ethic, impressive physique, and infectious charisma.
He is also the highest paid actor in Hollywood.
Much like his strapping superstar predecessor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dwayne’s career began as an athlete with a penchant for lycra.
This exceptionally elastic fabric showcased Schwarzenegger’s muscles to perfection during body-building competitions and Dwayne’s brawny athleticism in the pro-wrestling arena.
Both men transitioned from sporty showmanship into action movie heroes.
Schwarzenegger is associated with iconic movies including The Terminator, Predator and Conan the Barbarian and a stock of memorable lines including, “If it bleeds, we can kill it,” “Hasta la vista, baby,” and “I’ll be back.”
While Johnson may lack a stack of iconic movie one-liners he makes up for it with a seriously long list of movie credits.
Since his first starring role in 2002’s The Scorpion King, Johnson has appeared in no less than forty-five movies. Schwarzenegger has fifty-four movies to his name, but he is decades older. Given that Johnson is only forty-seven, it won’t be long before he surpasses Schwarzenegger and just about everyone else in Hollywood to boot. For example:
- Sylvester Stallone: 68 movies – 24 years older
- Bruce Willis: 86 movies – 17 years older
- Chuck Norris: 33 movies – 32 years older
- John-Claude Van Damme 56 movies – 11 years older
Johnson’s roles might not be as memorable as that of Stallone’s Rocky, Willis’ John McClane in Die Hard or even Norris’ Commando roles, but his reputation as a generous and personable human being is admirable.
The Rock’s motto is to always be the hardest working person in the room. He credits this philosophy with climbing out of depression when his dream of playing professional football collapsed.
He applied prodigious energy, ambition, and willpower to become a pro-wrestler and actor. The result is spectacularly successful.
So what, I wonder, would it take to be Dwayne Johnson for a day?
